Running a bridge in software with your interfaces in promiscuous
mode on a machine that is doing anything else is pretty much of
a kludge to begin with. If you really can't arrange the addresses
so routing will work I'd recommend getting a small switching
hub (i.e. a real bridge) if you can spend any money and adding
the ISA card as your IP interface if you can't. If you don't
use the ISA card for bridging you don't have to put it in
promiscous mode and it won't hurt performance much. In fact
if you can find a shared-memory card like the old WD8013's or
a busmaster like the 3C509b it won't hurt it much at all.
