There are about a thousand different reasons why Win95 might say
"Access denied renewing adapter," which is why you haven't seen a
definitive answer about it. The "already acking" message means that
Win95 sent a second DHCPREQUEST before the DHCP server had a chance to
send the first DHCPACK. This is not really a problem, and should not
result in a failure to renew, so your failure to renew is probably
happening for a different (although possibly related) reason.
In order to figure out what that reason is, we need more information.
Can you send us the complete server log for the period when the Win95
client was trying to get an address? Please don't try to edit it for
clarity - while well-intentioned, such efforts generally result in the
removal of relevant information. If you knew which information was
relevant and which wasn't, you'd probably already have figured out the
problem.
It may be that you have some other device on your network which is
competing with your DHCP server and giving bad information to your
clients - if your server is sending DHCPACKs to the client, and the
client isn't getting them, there's a decent chance that some other
device is sending a DHCPNAK at the same time your server is sending
the DHCPACK, and this is why the client isn't succeeding in getting an
address.
Another possible problem is that some intelligent switches impose
delays on the delivery of DHCP packets that aren't acceptable to
Windows clients, which are very sensitive to delays in the processing
of the DHCP protocol. There was actually a message about this on the
mailing list yesterday - you might want to consult the archive if you
have any fancy ethernet switches installed at your site.
