I'm not Ted, but I will see if I can answer.

Depends on which revision of it you are looking at. My original DDNS
update code submission to Ted was based on Irina Goble's code. I enhanced
it to store the DDNS state of a lease in the (dhcpd.leases) database for
persistance across server boots and to be smart about when it actually
sends updates to the DNS system, avoiding the situation of sending an
update for every single lease renewal.

Then after some suggestions from Ted I reworked that code into a statement
that can be executed in the dhcpd.conf file. The new statment is
"dns-update()". I have submitted some inital documentation to Ted for it,
however I am sure with my documentation (lack of) skills he will need to
rework that a bit before it makes it into the man page. There is a
reference to how dns-update() works in the HEAD of the CVS tree's
"server/dhcpd.conf.5" man page in the "events" reference section if you
really want to see how it works.
