Even 512MB might be too little for the data volumes you are seeing. The
India team is being forced to move to servers with 4GB ram.

I think going for a Linux server is very good idea. Will you host it
yourself? We are planning to set up Linux servers in several countries, but
this is just in the beginning, and we should all help out in establishing
good setups. I've taken a brief look at Amazon's EC2 "cloud computing"
solution which offer virtual servers (which, like other hosted solutions,
require good internet connections). It would be great if everyone could help
out by discussing here and also editing the wiki. It may make sense if we
all use the same distro, e.g. Ubuntu (although this is certainly not a
requirement), to consolidate efforts.
