Actually, the notation in Design Patterns doesn't even claim to *be*
UML, IIRC... it's a hybrid of ideas from the various modelling notations
that pre-date UML. Come to that, the book itself pre-dates UML I think!
Of course I could be wrong, I can't lay my hands on a copy of the book
right now -- but check the appendix on notation.
