try the shape export plugin:

currently it's only a patch against the CVS version (if you patch
the 0.86 version, you'll get the wrong SVG namespace - you can adjust it
manually, though)
* put your shapes in ~/dia/shapes
* unless you define new sheets, the new shapes will end up in the "Unnamed"
sheet"
* In order to use these shapes with unpatched dia versions you'll have to
convert the *.pngs to *.xpms and edit the *.shape to reflect the change
(icon tag) - and of course, create sheets for them.
I hope that this will be included in dia soon - Additionally:
* dia should support the old namespaces (s. James's posting)
* #define DIA_SVG_NAMESPACE="???" in order to use it in the shape loader and
the shape export

P.S.: dia will crash on opening a dia-file when it's missing a shape used in
the drawing. I think this is a bug...
