Positioning labels is tricky.  I wish we could come up with a good generic
solution.

The regular line can do that, so that'd be the place to look for how to
implement it.

Source files are available as CVS from cvs.gnome.org:/cvs/gnome, which will
give you the newest, bestest sources.  You can also get the source for 0.86
