SVG reference

Could someone tell me where I could find a fairly comprehensive reference
for the
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)?
FYI: Workarounds for problems on Mandrake Linux

On another matter, I have expereinced problems with Dia, running
on Mandrake Linux
ver 7.2, but have found workarounds.
Problem: Dia crashes a lot.
Workaround : uninstall rpm version of Dia, then install version of Dia compiled from the source.
Problem: Dia is not able to reload previously saved files.
Workaround : switch off, "Save as compressed" option.
Perhaps abetter solution will be to change my Linux distribution.
At the moment, the
case put to me, by quite a few correspondants, to change
to Debian, seems
overwhelming.
