I have tried unzipping and zipping the ER-demo.dia file. Dia reads it
without any problems no matter how I present it (zipped or not).
Regarding the files written by dia locally, dia will not read them
whether they are zipped or not. Thus the compression does not seem
to cause any problem.
I am more concerned of why dia changes the underlying XML code of the
ER-demo.dia file when I save it locally. As long as I do not change
anything in the diagram I would expect the XML code of the dia source
distributed ER-demo.dia and my own locally saved version to be the same,
unless there is some bug in the XML encoding locally. Am I
totally mistaken?
