HI Alex,
Markus, do you ever post across the languages between the German and
English discussions? Of all the discussion groups I have found, this
seems to be the most comprehensive and active.
No, there's no cross-posting between my german and english language
boards. They are each independent boards. Some years ago I also have set
up a French and Hungarian language board with help of users speaking
those languages, but there was almost no traffic. So I decided to just
keep the german and english language boards only.
It's quite ease to set up a group or discussion board but it's permanent
work to keep it running if it's still small and not well known. Since I
started my site in 2004 it now will have about 1.600.000 page views
generated by about 165.000 visits (this year 2010, robots are not counted).
So now it's quite well known in Germany and there are new postings
almost every day. But it will take a lot of additional work to get some
more action in the other areas and english language boards.
If I would translate each posting manually => this would be too much
work (I also have a "normal" job to do at a biogas company :) ).
And I think automated translation and cross-posting between my boards
would not be a very good idea, since the quality of translations may be
very wrong and also the topic interests between the english language
board users and german board users are quite different.
