Greetings,

If any of the great minds of this list have an interest in
supporting folk who want to know what a State can do in the
current climate, in terms of legislation that can be enacted, or
by other administrative fiat, or by community initiative to
promote sensible ICT/Telecommunications Policy and Practice, I
would like to invite you to join a listserv established to "Get
Illinois Online". [GIO]

Illinois is facing a telecommunications legislative rewrite in
the coming year. We've seen what's happened in Pa. We've heard
what the ILECs want from our legislature in a hearing before a
Senate committee. (One of many, we expect).

We're looking at many dimensions of an ICT policy: Muni's,
CLECs, ISPs, Development of Human and Community Capital/Capacity
(Demand), Comsumer and Civic interests, Right of Way, Easements,
Penalties, Accountability, Digital Divide infrastructure and
broadband infrastructure, eGovernment, etc. (not intending to
be exhaustive)

We're relying upon concerted efforts of diverse groups in and
out of Illinois to develop a sensible framework for policy and
legislation we can put forth in a State context, and we invite
you whether you are in Illinois or not.

I am committed to coordination of policy workers and concerned
community interests across state boundaries to address their
similar interests with States as Policy laboratories. (cf. the
State-by-State project in the footer).

Regards,

Michael Maranda
