I couldn't agree more. Someone may have already done this, but I haven't seen any news reports about it yet. Unfortunately I don't have the skills to create such a database, but I think it's a great idea.

I'm setting up a ddn community space right now; I'll send a note soon to let everyone know when it's ready. We can certainly feature any missing persons databases on the site, among other resources....
