My husband's company, RunTime Technologies <www.runtime.com>, has built similar
applications using their Java-based web content management framework. Theirs
is a
hybrid of open source and commercial technologies.
I know they currently do work for both the Columbia University Law
School and the Business School, Kaplan Test Prep, Merril Lynch,
JPMorganChase, and a number of other companies -- including a number of
non-profits (eg: they did the MoMA2000 site way back when and just recently
the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee). They've been
in business for about 10 years. Send him an email -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I'm sure he'll be happy to tell you more or recommend other solutions if
they're not right for the job.

Subject: [DDN] Any suggestions for a Software to create an electroniclibrary /
bookshelf?

Dear Colleagues,

I have been searching for a Content Management Software, which can easily
handle both images and text.

In particular, I wish to create a website/electronic library, where
publications can be added, displayed and rearranged by their coverpages,
similar to as one sees on a (physical) bookshelf or in a bookstore.

I understand there are some Open Source applications such as GreenStone.org
(developed by UNESCO) and I have also seen commercial websites such as Amazon
and e-Bay arranging their products (both text and images) in a manner of
bookshelf.

But are there any off-the-shelf software / CMS applications that can easily be
customized to create a virtual book shelf?

Any pointers, suggestions will be most useful.

Best regards,
Vikas
