Hi folks, wanted to take a moment to introduce the Peace Tiles Project, and
opportunity for children and youth to come together -- to lift their "visual
voices" together in the global struggle against HIV/AIDS. Id also like to
invite your participation at any level you can, but most importantly to
sponsor a really fun peace tile making activity for children and youth
at-risk and affected by HIV/AIDS. You can sign up to join the Peace Tiles
project at: http://www.devarts.org

CONCEPT
To engage children and youth globally in the co-production of two thrilling
permanent art installation that will be co-sited and installed, one at
"ground zero" for children and AIDS on World AIDS Day 2005 and the other at
UNAIDS (or equivalent venue; unconfirmed). AIDS "ground zero" is the place
on earth where the greatest number of children are infected with HIV, the
virus that causes AIDS.

SUMMARY
Development and Art, working in cooperation with the <a
href="http://www.icaf.org";>International Child Art Foundation</a>, <a
href="http://www.actalive.org";>ActALIVE</a>, <a
href="http://www.art4development";> Art4Development</a>and <a
href="http://www.visualvoices.org";>VisualVoices</a>, will coordinate an
unprecedented worldwide effort to bring artists, children, and pediatric
HIV/AIDS workers together to produce a stunning work of art.

The project has four goals:
 1) Bring children who are at risk for and living with HIV/AIDS together for
fun and creativity
 2) Raise public awareness of the extent to which children suffer from AIDS
globally
 3) Produce a lasting, uplifting and valued work of art that children are
proud of
 4) Raise funds to prevent and treat AIDS at AIDS ground zero and
elsewhere

HOW IT WORKS
During 2005 the World AIDS Day Art Action campaign, Development and Art will
widely distribute to AIDS education and prevention programs, artists and
related networks the specifications for the production of an artistic "peace
tile."

The unfinished tiles will be sent to the United States where they will be
catalogued, treated and guest curated into two very large works by a team of
prominent artists. The role of the artists will be to specify the
arrangement of tiles into two large murals. A team of assistants will be
responsible to document and label the final arrangement for reproduction on
site.

On December 1st, 2005 -- World AIDS Day -- the works will be inaugurated at
two locations: in an appropriate site at AIDS "ground zero" for children and
at the offices of the UN AIDS Program in Geneva. At the same time, monies
raised through international sponsorships will be presented to the community
at "ground zero." The inauguration will also kick-off a multi-year effort
for children around the world to inspire one another through the exchange of
"peace tiles" created in on-going workshops.

NEEDS
* An international undertaking of this scale will need support in several
ways:
* Quickly establish a network of artists and organizations willing to
oversee the production of tiles by children using locally available
materials
* Publicity and corporate relations professionals to manage the visibility
of and energy surrounding this international event
* Underwriters and supporters willing to lend the prominence of their name
and institutional affiliation to the endeavor by endorsing the project

Schools, artists, and educators are strongly urged to join Development and
Art and begin planning and documenting your tile-making workshop online.
DevArts.org makes webspace available for tile projects to create their own
personal blogs and list their activity on the sites online calendar.
