And the phrase "lowest common denominator" leads to an easy condescension to your readers. Beyond that, there is the concept of the "trimtab" - a small unit that exerts great influence on the course of a large vessel. I think we can function in that way, and benefit the "lowest common denominator" without wasting effort in audience development. This list has an amazing reach and members who span a broad range of activities. Take care in your efforts to expand it. And if you do change course, I hope it will be in the direction of increased practical advice and tips on appropriate funding, hardware and software. In my opinion, that's what your greater audience needs, not more theoretical discussions.
