Dear Colleagues, If you or your program have ever struggled to select and incorporate software into your educational programs, or don't know where to begin when assessing what (or whether!) new software might improve your program...the America Connects project has developed a toolkit that can help.
Developed by a team lead by Teresa Lara-Meloy, the ACC Software Selection Toolkit was built to help program staff in locating, evaluating, and using software that's appropriate for the CTC environment. The toolkit is geared specifically toward software for older teens, but can be helpful in selecting material for any educational program. It provides a process for assessing both the needs of learners and instructors and the educational value of different software programs. The toolkit also features a review of the most common types of educational software available today. Finally, it includes a list of resources for locating and evaluating additional education materials. If you're planning on attending the conference next month, you're also invited to participate in an interactive workshop that Teresa and I will be offering on the toolkit. The session will use a set of interactive activities to introduce participants to the approach and resources described in the toolkit. Click here for a full description of the session: http://www.ctcnet.org/conf/2005/at_conference/program_detail.asp?SessionID=38 LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK We're always interested in learning how our colleagues in the field are using the resources we develop. If you'd like to share your experience using the toolkit, have suggestions for how we might improve it, or would like to tell us about other challenges you're currently facing in this area, please let us know!
