Hi Cindy, Siobhan

I've just got back from CTCNet 2005 (in Cleveland) and was really interested
in this discussion about the purpose of podcasting lectures. And I see the
discussion has centered around podcasting for "irresponsible" students ...
But I haven't seen anyone mention the role of different kinds of media for
different kinds of students. There were many times in college I wish I had
had the opportunity to listen to a lecture again - not because of the
brilliance of the content, but rather because the content had eluded me
during the 50 or 90 minutes of class. There are different kinds of learners
(regardless of economic development) and why not address the needs of all
learners with the different kinds of media. I see podcasting, taping, or
other examples as such - different ways of presenting similar information to
students from a broad array of learning and physical abilities.

(I'm purposefully not addressing the issue of infrastructure in the
developing world as I have been a teacher in places where schools don't even
have a typewriter, and I can see the argument go both ways.)
