hi all

old pc's has its advantages and disadvantages for the developing world

personally, i have not bought a new computer and have always used surplus
computers

our foundation's action plan is itself premised on old hardware, floss,
and training

advantages
1. low cost entry to ict (expand accessibility to low income groups)
2. work for refurbishers and recyclers
3. recycling of materials

disadvantages
1. environmental degradation

the developed countries may concentrate on the disadvantages and help
provide solutions and not off the bat criticize and stop the flow of old
pc's, even pentium 1 and 486 can be made productive

or is this another conspiracy to sell brand new pc's to the developing
countries where profits can be had?

regards to all
