I'm sympathetic to your point.

I think there was/is some effort to allow LLD (the LLVM linker) as a replacement for the MSVC linker in LDC. Perhaps if LLD could be a drop-in for MSVC in DMD for Windows, then eventually it could be the default? Not sure that's possible or not.
