Having used php for the last year in my job, there is one thing I
appreciate: with a language that is focused on string manipulation,
it is so much better to be able to simply output variables inside
strings rather than having to exit a quotation, and use a
concatenation operator.

Facebook.
Nothing personal, but I wouldn't consider any of those social
networking sites to be remotely "serious".
Me neither until I started working for them. Facebook is one of the most
difficult companies to get hired at as a programmer, and as a direct
consequence has amassed a lot of talented folks working on hard,
interesting problems.
Such as email scams.
