The problem is not the spooling per se, Linux, Windows and Mac OS X are
all happy to talk to JetDirect, the problem is that the printer only has
7MB of memory and no disc, and operating systems seem now to think that
printers have gigbytes of memory and make no allowances.  The worst of
it is though that the LJ 4000 has quite an old version of PostScript
compared to that in use today and all the application and/or drivers
that render to PostScript are not willing (or able) to code generate for
such an old PostScript interpreter.  Together this leads to a huge
number of stack fails on print jobs.
