D has been following a very open development process.
There are public newsgroups, mailinglists, wiki, bugzilla and github.
But as I understand, much development discussions (and/or planning?) have been moved to Trello.

Don't kid yourself, people have yet AFAIK to use trello very much. Which is kind of disappointing, it's a nice tool.

It doesn't seem to be a way to join in as a spectator (or even search for boards), and it feels like a big step in the wrong direction.

Is it possible to make the Trello part open too?

I think it can be made open for viewing even if it's not open for changing. You'd have to consult Andrei, as he owns all the boards.
