Have you looked in the AX25-HOWTO? I think it tells you in there how 
to use the sound card modem software that is built into the linux 
kernel as part of the AX-25 module.

You'll need a terminal program that will link to an ax port in linux. 
Give me a while and I'll come up with something. I just can't 
remember the name of the program right now.

If that doesn't help you come back and I'll try to find something 
else.
