Hello to Patrick, the author of
MultiPSK
Now you made it very clear
that this 3.9 is not a simple real number and
that software version designators in general are elements of a "n" fold
dimensional space. The size of this "n" can change from software to software.
For example, in a certain kind of software, one dimension could be
the language used, other the class of user like home, education, government,
etc. Another dimension could be the age group of the user, and so
on.

Hello Germano,
"3.9" does not pertain to the real numbers
set!
Simply to a double dimension set: one
dimension for the "version" (3) and one dimension for the sub-version (9).
Sometimes I add a third dimension for the sub-sub-version.

Alan,
you
are right about decimal numbers. However the various usages for designating
different versions of a software are more complex. Notice that very
often the have more than one separator dot/point.
Example: MS Internet Explorer Version
6.0.2900.2180 ..........
By the way, could version 3.9 mean
3 and nine tenths?

I know that now, but I am used to decimal numbers where
3.9 > 3.13. Perhaps he should number his revisions of ver. 4
(whenever it may appear) starting with 4.01 rather than
4.1.
