Here (for Multipsk) I use Pascal and I compile with Delphi 6, but the standard (Mixw...) is to use C or C++ and to compile with Visual C++ or the Borland C++ compiler. The Visual Basic is also very used but not so much as C++ (as far as I know).

C++ is much more for the true programmers (the ones who like to program in Object, to manipulate pointers and so on). Pascal is much more for the ones who want to program in a simple language, and who want to keep on ignoring all these subtilities (although you can program objects and use pointers if really you like this...). Basic is close to Pascal.

Hello to Patrick, the author of MultiPSK

Now you made it very clear that  this  3.9 is not a simple real number  and that software version designators in general are elements of a "n" fold dimensional space. The size of this "n" can change from software to software. For example, in a certain kind of software, one  dimension could be the language used, other the class of user like home, education, government, etc. Another dimension could be the age group of the user, and so on.

Hello Germano,

"3.9" does not pertain to the real numbers set!
Simply to a double dimension set: one dimension for the "version" (3) and one dimension for the sub-version (9). Sometimes I add a third dimension for the sub-sub-version.

Alan,
you are right about decimal numbers. However the various usages for designating different versions of a software are more complex. Notice that very often the have more than one separator dot/point.
Example: MS Internet Explorer Version 6.0.2900.2180 ..........

By the way, could  version 3.9  mean 3 and nine tenths?

I know that now, but I am used to decimal numbers where 3.9 > 3.13.
Perhaps he should number his revisions of ver. 4 (whenever it may
appear) starting with 4.01 rather than 4.1.
