Turns out that the 735 required major repairs, at least
major to me, so I have passed it on to a qualified person.

So, now I have a Yaesu FT-890AT (not ALE capable) a
TenTec 580/Delta (relay switching is noisy and too slow
for full ALE) and a Gonset G-76 (ancient boatanchor, no
chance of ALE though perhaps some simple digital modes).

Any thoughts about these rigs?

TenTec Omni VI+ is said to be excellent for digital modes
but I do not know about ALE.

TenTec Jupiter also a solid rig, not sure about ALE.

TenTec Argonaut V icludes the TCXO and fan kit and is
said to be PSK31-ready but ALE? It is also only 20W
and I'd guess anything but a broadband amp would be
to kludgy for ALE.
