There is nothing inherently wrong with Pactor or its descendents.
There is nothing inherently wrong with automatic or semi-automatic
operation on unattended stations.

The problem is negligent developers who deploy software that supports
semi-automatic Pactor operation on unattended stations but doesn't
have the ability to ignore an incoming request when the frequency is
already busy.

WinLink is conceptually well-founded, and provides a useful service;
its just poorly implemented.
