John, As I have mentioned before, SCAMP was being developed by the Winlink 2000 programmer as a replacement or at least an alternative soundcard mode for Pactor 1, 2 and 3.
The mode worked superbly well for good signal conditions. Faster than Pactor 2, but in a relatively wide band similar to Pactor 3. It did not have a fall back mode as does Pactor modes and the developer had to stop further work because of other commitments with the Winlink 2000 system. It has been about 1 1/2 years and no further work has been mentioned, but I would expect he is still thinking about various possibilities. As I mentioned before, he did not want anyone to have access to these modes at this time and placed a timer in the software to make it inoperative after a few months of each iteration. The program could be used at the time to access one of three different U.S./Canadian connections to the Winlink 2000 system or it could even be used as a connected mode for sending data to another station, although it was not intended as a keyboard mode. The author has indicated that he plans to someday GPL the software. This means that it would be available to other hams to develop for further applications, just as he borrowed the RDFT protocol from the ham Linux community who initially developed this mode. At one time RDFT received some very significant accolades as a breakthrough although it seems that most in the SSTV amateur community who were the primary users, have gone on to QAM based modes as being more successful for their SSTV programming. 73, Rick, KV9U John Becker wrote: > >>>>> SCAMP, a protocol that employs ARQ to attain reliable >>>>> >>>>> >>delivery, was implemented on a Windows PC with a soundcard rather >>than an outboard TNC.
