XXXXXX Well now - that is interesting that they FINALLY realize there
needs to be hf for new hams. It sure is. But wait - Didnt we have that ,
with the Novice license? Who was it that wanted to get rid of that license?
I thought it was the ARRL!

Not only that, but many many of the Novices did go on up to General,
Advanced and Extra. I can speak for personal experience with that. Its the
way I got here.

They had it - they knew it worked - they got rid of it - and now teyt want
another hf class entry license? How the worm turns!

Of course they were interested in getting more people involved in the Tech
license as well, so pushed it, and got what they wanted. Those guys didnt
have CW , and didnt get the hf bands. Most of them probably didnt even last
the whole period of their license dates.

Id like to see Novice back - but they will foul it up with different rules,
different tests, and probably make it as useless to many, as the Tech
license was.

But - this is a digital radio group - so we need to discuss the outcome of
any license issuance for that mode. With hf, the "new" lower class license
should indeed have some hf capatibility, with an assignment to cover some of
the digital freqs- thats where todays generation is going to wind up - be it
on hf or vhf, and only hf has the great capability of running digital and
working DX over and over. Get them involved in the awards programs, and in
contesting. Give them the capability to really BE a ham operator. Feeding
a sow one ear of corn makes her hungery for more. Give her the cobb, and
she aint interested.
