"New 80 meter Digital Keyboarding Calling Frequencies USA:
=========================================================
PSK31 = 3545kHz USB (3545.3-3548.0 kHz)"
Such a narrow knowledge and view of current 80m usage is unacceptable. That
is why bandplans need to be formulated considering the needs of all of
operators.
The inexpensive PSK-80 "Warbler" transceiver is probably largely responsibe
for the increase in PSK31 activity on 80m, although you may not notice them,
since the typical range of the 3-watt, <$50 transceiver, is about 300 miles.
However, there are many Warbler groups around 3580 which cannot move,
BECAUSE THE WARBLER IS CRYSTAL CONTROLLED ON 3580 to 3583 (TV colorburst
crystals) and cannot move! This has been the situation for a number of
years, and there are thousands of Warbler users.
A similar problem exists with the 40m QRP frequency of 7040 where there are
over 10,000 Rockmite users that are also crystal-bound on either 7040 or
7035.
W1AW also transmits code practice on 3581.5, so the Warbler operators stay
as far away from that frequency as possible.
If someone is going to propose a "bandplan" then it might be a good idea to
first educate oneself as to the current usage and limitations, since that IS
important!
