Power matters for all of the digital modes. None of them defeat the laws of physics. (A subject I received a proud C- in while in college, grin.) I don't advocate running more power than necessary (in fact I do not own a linear). But all of the sound card modes can sometimes benefit from more power when conditions are marginal. An S-unit (say--increasing to 80 watts from 20 watts) will often be the difference between Q5 copy and no copy, especially in these days of frequently rotten band conditions. Pactor and the other older modes are no different. Back when I did Pactor I did have a linear. I could literally watch the missed ARQ packets become fewer and fewer as I slowly increased power. de Roger W6VZV
