I started out using HRD / DM780, then for OS reasons (not having to do with HRD or DM780 ... both performed flawlessly), I switched over to Linux and have been running fldigi for the last couple of months. No big complaints ... fldigi is well behaved, and general performance of the Linux box blows the Windoze equivalent box away.
But I find I am missing some of those fine Simon Features and modes. So I decided to try a little experiment. I have a working 'wine' implementation on the Linux box where I am now running fldigi, so I loaded HRD onto it and fired it up. Low and behold, it works! (for about 20 seconds anyway) After establishing initial connection with the interface for my IC-718 (including successful exchange of frequency / mode info between program and radio), it locks up. Anyone else dabble with running HRD in some form of Windoze emulation mode on Linux? Yeah, I know I could do the whole Virtual Machine thing (I use it extensively on the day job), but I really am trying to get the best of both worlds, all the cool Windoze apps to run on my favorite NON-windows OS. :-) Your clues appreciated ... - Doug/KE7SEI
