*Network Engineer* Location: *Rockville,MD* Duration: *RTH - We can consider third party candidates if their employer’s are open with RTH. Client will also consider H1 transfer directly with them*. ·Operational support, monitoring, and maintenance of the company’s Cisco based data communications network and network security devices. The job also involves simultaneously working as part of a team on the successful testing and deployment of multiple large to small projects. · Operational support, monitoring, and maintenance of the company’s Checkpoint Firewalls based perimeter security network and other network security devices. The job also involves simultaneously working as part of a team on the successful testing and deployment of multiple large to small projects. ·Responsible for troubleshooting Level 1-2 network and firewall issues as they arise while maintaining an appropriate level of reporting and escalations to management and senior staff when necessary *Essential Job Functions:* ·Responsible for Level 1-2 support of data networks including IP, ATM, Frame Relay and Gigabit Ethernet based technologies. ·Requires in-depth knowledge of TCP/IP and communication protocols and troubleshooting methods. Experienced in the support of enterprise network routing architectures using protocols such as OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, RIP and static routes. Knowledge of Quality Of Service, IPSec, GRE tunnels is preferred ·Ability to troubleshoot multi-vendor network issues in the LAN and WAN networks and working with multiple application and systems teams to identify the root cause of service impacting events. ·Hands-on experience with all phases of firewall and network operations, firewall change requests, firewall configuration, network services, and network security; ·Ensure that the firewall and network system is adequately monitored to identify and solve data communication problems and user performance issues; this includes understanding chronic issues causing inefficiency in operation and seeks resolution. ·Position demands that the candidate be able to work independently but also be a strong team player ·Strict adherence to change control process and procedures in all aspects of configurations and policy is mandatory *Education/Experience Requirements:* ·Bachelor’s degree in engineering or information systems or a related technical discipline or work experience and formal training equivalent to a four-year degree. ·At least 5+ years of experience in firewall administration, Network & Information Security, network administration, or related technical specialties. Experience in managing and administering network and firewall changes under change control process and procedures is a bonus. ·Knowledge of network routing (BGP, EIGRP) and switching protocols, Cisco hardware models, various network management tools. Advanced experience with Checkpoint Firewalls (NG/NG AI); Cisco Routers, Cisco Switches and Checkpoint Firewalls required. Enhanced Certification in Checkpoint Firewalls (CCSA/CCSE) and Cisco Routers (CCDP/CCNP) and Switches is preferred. ·Excellent analytical skills, organizational, time management and problem solving skills are essential. Excellent oral and written communication skills including ability to interact effectively with executives, vendors and department staff. ·Verbal communication skills required as this position requires some interaction with requestors (usually application and technical project teams) and the network and firewall outsourcers technical support staff. ·Must possess and be able to demonstrate a solid understanding and experience with supporting Cisco inter-networking and firewall systems *Working Conditions:* ·Work is normally performed in an office environment. ·On-call rotation, extended hours, and weekend work may be required as this is a 24 x7 operations environment ·Occasional travel may be required.
