Specifically I'm trying to display 0xf900, or 0xef 0xa4 0x80 in UTF8 
speak.
  /* CJK Compatibility Ideographs (partly) */
  { 0xf900, 0xfa0b, "kr" },

is in basic_ranges for ft2 if that means anything.  I'd be the first 
to admit I'm just crawling my way through this stuff, far from a UTF 
guy.
