Has anyone looked at WebKit, Nokia recently did a port of WebKit to
Symbian, supposedly works really well with small-memory footprint
embedded systems?

I've been on the webkit mailing list, but there's alas little activity
to get the Linux port up and running. One of my secret plans for a
long time has been to port WebKit using LiTE so there's a really
light-weight web browser solution. This as we will always have
underpowered, small-memory embedded systems concerning consumer
products. Anyway, in case anyone else is interested in this, let me
know, maybe we could start a separate project porting WebKit next
year.

WebKit has less dependencies on X/GTK, for example. It has some more
dependencies on the Qt emulation layer that Apple and other engineers
are slowly removing. WebKit derives from the KTML KDE web browser
project.

See: http://webkit.opendarwin.org/ for more details.
