I will trust your analysis. I've never tried anything like this before.
It seemed to me that since the GTK stuff is all working on all sides
this would be the fastest way... I didn't look at the other
architectures like mac much.

You're our hero!! Tell me your company's name, so I can buy something!

IMHO, it *has* to be Mozilla. While other browsers have their roles and
their justification for existence, Mozilla is by far the most complete
solution.
I think many of us are looking at directfb for Multimedia based
applications, STBs, Players, Digital TV devices... A big keyword here is
'Enhanced TV'. I strongly believe the GUIs for this type of application
will be browser based - a glance at the relevant standards (MHP, DASE,
etc...) makes this very clear.
I've had a chance to play with a few systems at work - the key component
isn't the drawing, the GUIs can always be adapted to a particular
browser's drawing idiosyncracies.
The key component is the JavaScript (and DOM, DHTML) support of the
browser, since the GUIs need to offer a richer interface than is
possible with plain HTML, and need to interface to Video and Audio
controls.
This why I think it has to be Mozilla - the JavaScript support!
