Right on both counts.

But the main difference between the two is not at the port level but
the higher code thats not changed by the gtk port. Yes it needs and
upgrade and now that I've started the project thats on my todo list.
Although the porting api is not clean the code is well split into
platform dependent and platform independent code. So I don't see
keeping in sync with the main platform to be a big issue.  I think
once the pure gtk port works and is upgraded it may be worth
investigating moving it over to darwin they have a blurp about a
desire to bring the gtk port into the main branch.

In the short term getting the port  up to date and working on Directfb
can be done in the directfb cvs.  This is the approach I took with
cairo and gtk. I have finally gotten feedback from the gtk folks about
the directfb backend.
