Yeah, that's a problem with DirectFB - the docs could be a lot better. In general one learns directfb by reading other directfb examples and applications, and if necessary, looking into the DFB code itself. If all else fails, one asks a question on the list.
The DFB Wiki contains some documentation for some more common tasks. It seems that there is no one who wants to put their time into writing docs...
