That's because both are doing the exact same thing (software rendering).
With hardware rendering you would see the card icon light up when a test
is running and in the results screen. The text output would also have
'*' next to the results to indicate hardware rendering.

True. IIRC the i830 driver doesn't support any hw rendering.
