Hello list,

Are there special precautions to take when exiting DirectFB
applications to make sure the video system is left in a good state?
I'm asking because both on my laptop (P4, ATI Radion M9, Gentoo 2.6.11)
and on two Mini-ITX system I'm working on (C3, VIA CLE266, Gentoo
2.6.11 and MontaVista 4.0), I notice that after running a DFB
application the system is left in a "strange" state. On my laptop,
things are OK as long as I don't try to run X - once I _have_ run X,
even after exiting it, I can't run DFB apps (the screen shows remnants
of the X background and the system is non-responsive from its console).
On the MontaVista Mini-ITX system, I can run DFB apps after exiting X,
but I need to telnet into the box and type "dfbswitch 800x600"
(actually, the exact resolution doesn't seem to matter) to get my
virtual console back (although its text cursor will be a random stipple
pattern or sometimes an X cursor); on the other Mini-ITX, the
"dfbswitch" trick does nothing and I'm left with no working virtual
consoles; but I _can_ start up X from a telnet session.

Note that I'm not looking to run X and DFB _simultaneously_ (although I
agree with an earlier poster that it would ease development if such a
thing were possible, even without any acelleration).

Thanks for any help,

Sander Stoks
