Folks,

I've been playing with a diskless EPIA M6000 box which I want to build into
a simple media player for educational use. I want to avoid running X if at
all possible, not least because I want the whole thing to run in 256M (ram
disk included, no NFS!).

I'm using the latest 2.6 kernel (current 2.6.14), and I've got fb.ko,
viafb.ko and all the demos working fine (great stuff to play with, thanks! -
reminds me of the good old days of writing BBC Micro graphics demos ;-)

I'm now looking at getting MPEG decode working, but most of the work on MPEG
acceleration seems to be in the X world. I saw some things about mtest a
while back - is this still the best bet? Or is acceleration now available
for something like MPlayer in DFB mode? What's the best bet with things as
they stand?

My second question is this: One of my interests in DirectFB is integrating
video surfaces into the UI so I can pan, scale, alpha & warp them at will...
Does the CLE266 hardware acceleration just output directly, or does it
deliver a memory image that could (in theory?) be used as a DirectFB video
surface?

Many thanks

Paul
