I think my question got away, i believe .. in directfb-extras there is a
sample application called sample1.
I was looking at how this can be run. without xine/xine-lib, since i had
compiled in libmpeg3 support.
To investigate why libmpeg3 fails to be used, you can add some debug
messages in
DirectFB-extra/interfaces/IDirectFBVideoProvider/idirectfbvideoprovider_libmpeg3.c
in function Probe() at line 998. Either fails to detect the stream or it
isn't
called at all for some other reason.
