Hello again,
am I the only one who wants to play xv accelerated videos in XDirectFB?
It's really frustrating: I tried everything to activate the TVout and after three weeks and about 20 different howtos I found the solution in XDirectFB (unfortunately without any howto) and now no one is able or willing to help me in the last step.
Maybe someone could tell me, what would be the normal way of installing XDirectFB so xv acceleration would be possible. Do I have to recompile mplayer and MythTV with special configuration to make it work? I compiled the XDirectFB package (CVS - with xorg-6.8.2) against DirectFB-0.9.25 (from gentoo portage) and I'm using "matroxfb" as the framebuffer driver.
For my understanding, the problem has nothing to do with my graphics card or it's drivers. The main problem seems to be that xv acceleration isn't possible without the "XFree86-VidModeExtension" which has to be compiled into XDirectFB. But if I try to compile it with this extension, I'm getting an error about an unknown reference from "minitext" to this extension (don't remember the exact message - it pops out after about one hour of compiling).
I hate it to beg for something, but in this situation I'm really lost and I don't know what else to do to make it work.
So please, please could someone help me solving this issue?
Best regards
Matthias Bodsch

Hi there,
I'm building a MythTV box on Gentoo (Kernel 2.6.17) - my graphics adapter is
a Matrox G550 with a VGA to Scart-RGB cable which I soldered for myself.
I tried many different howtos to activate the TV output of my Matrox G550
(PAL) but the only working solution seems to be XDirectFB. Because the
ebuilds in Gentoo are broken I manually compiled the latest XDirectFB from
CVS using Xorg monolithic 6.8.2.
Everything seems to work - I can start MythTV on my TV and am getting a
sharp and colorful picture.
The only thing I can't use is the xv accelaration by playing videos either
on mplayer or MythTV. I've read in the CVS mailinglist that xv is now
possible with XDirectFB and any Matrox card. But trying to play a video with
mplayer using xv outputs the following error:
-----------------------------------
Xlib: extension "XFree86-VidModeExtension" missing on display ":0.0".
It seems there is no Xvideo support for your video card available.
Run 'xvinfo' to verify its Xv support and read DOCS/HTML/en/video.html#xv!
See 'mplayer -vo help' for other (non-xv) video out drivers. Try -vo x11
Fehler beim Ãffnen/Initialisieren des ausgewählten Videoausgabetreibers
(-vo).
-----------------------------------
If I look into the file xc/config/cf/directfb.cf I can see that the
extension "XFree86-VidModeExtension" is indeed disabled, but xv is enabled.
If I enable the missing extension, the compile process stops with an error.
How can I activate the xv extension for mplayer and MythTV without using the
above extension. Or if I really need the "XFree86-VidModeExtension", how can
I compile XDirectFB using this extension without any complications?
Thanks in advance for your help!
