Ok, so at the moment it just isn't possible with the G550.
I always thought that I did something wrong and I hate it to give up. ;-)

I just ordered a G400 - hopefully I've got more luck with it. I've got the exact syntax for matroxset and I already tried to use it several times on my G550 - of course without success.
Just another little question: If I'm going to use XDirectFB and swap the heads before, do I have to define the first head in my directfbrc or the second head?
Thanks again for your great help and excuse me for the dumb questions. I'm using Linux for several years now but never played around with graphical interfaces so this whole story is completely new to me.
