So its me again replying to my own question.

It works and here is how it works: add a line to your "/etc/directfbrc" 
which contains "system=sdl" and be sure to compile directfb with the 
"--enable-sdl" switch. Credits for this solution go to savlo from 
#directfb on irc.freenode.net, thank you savlo. I tried it on my ubuntu 
8.04 with directfb 1.0.1 installed via apt-get and it worked out of the box.
