I seems to have come back again, looks like if disappeared at about 2.6.17 and came back again at 2.6.19. Of course I could have messed up my kernel configuration. May I ask which versions of DirectFB and linux-fusion you are using? I tried various versions before going back to linux-2.6.15 and DirectFB-0.9.25 but this is not really what I want as I like to use the latest versions of the ivtv driver as possible.
