Good question - according to the compilation report of a recent production version,
27% of memory is used in 2 16bit 2K FIFO's:

According to this http://users.ece.gatech.edu/~hamblen/UP3/cyc_c5v1.pdf the EP1C12 has 52 "M4K" blocks of 4608 bits each for a total of 239,616.
