Part of the promise of OpenStep was to provide an abstract enough framework to provide that. That probably isn't universally possible with all the niche distributions that are out there today. So *if* the position of GNUstep is that I have to run a particular system configuration to get that "consistent" experience, it needs to be fully expressed and supported by the project.
