Hello Lars and all,

personally, due to many years of comparative work experience, i have grown to deeply dislike any such type of meetings. I wouldn't want to describe it as being traumatized, but it feels close to it. Also, i don't think i'd be able to contribute anything worthwhile either, as my own involvement with GNUstep is too peripheral and much more passive than what you guys are doing.

While i appreciate the recordings and always do download them, i find them hard to listen to. Depending on each contributor's particular accent and microphone settings (or absence of), it is sometimes really hard to understand what is being said. Although the ability of rewinding the recording somewhat helps, this gets a bit tiresome after a few times too many. The automatic youtube subtitles are rather a nuisance and not really helpful either.

The length of the meetings is rather off-putting, too. At least the recordings can be fastforwarded, but at the risk of inadvertedly missing something of decisive importance. The meeting certainly is not too often, it is just way too long. Unlike the real time event, the recordings can be partially listened to by interrupting and resuming.

I'm unsure if artificially shortening the meeting time would be helpful. Judging by the length of the recordings there often appears to be a lot of worthwhile things to say and show by the active participants, even if at times there may only three. Each meeting's display of the amount and quality of work done by everybody is simply impressive.

Nonetheless, I am very glad about the existence of occasional third party Meeting Notes by both Rhetorica from the nextcommunity.net forums[1] and also by probonopd[2]. This is tremendously helpful for passive spectators like myself.

Hi fellow ’Steppers,

we had our monthly meeting on Saturday, the recordings are here:

it was very interesting, Greg showed some new apps and Joe did show his accomplishments working on NextBSD.

It was a little sad that only three of us took part in the meeting. Why is that?

- Is it because the meeting is too often, e.g. monthly? Would you have attended if it were only bi-monthly like some time ago? - Is it because the time of the year, I mean maybe you’re rather outside during summer time, enjoying the nice weather? - Is it because the meeting is to broadly announced now, should I stop posting announcements on reddit? - Is it because the meeting is to long, should we limit it to two or maybe one hour?

what was your reason not to attend? Please let me know.

kind regards,

Lars
