This was very helpful. DUH! I never even noticed that section before (or
ignored it).
So, my findings bring up an even larger question - how could this happen?
When the client submitted the request, it came up as new domain/advanced
reg...This would mean that it did not exist in the old registry, right? So,
when I see it got declined..."name is already reserved", that should mean
someone else in queue ahead of her got it as an advanced registration,
right? Fine and dandy.....
BUT... if I try to register it now, it tells me it's available for
pre-registration.. which means it *IS* in the old registry? CIRA Whois just
shows it as reserved. Cdnnet.ca Whois says there is "no registration
found".... What gives?

You can use "Search reg system orders". Specify *.ca names,
registration type "new orders". You will see the statuses there.
